What are botulinum toxin injections for excessive sweating?
Excessive underarm sweating and odor can be improved with botulinum toxin injections.
This treatment is popular for reducing hyperhidrosis and underarm odor because it is relatively simple compared to other treatment options.
The injections are administered in small, evenly spaced amounts into the areas where underarm sweat glands are active (the hair-bearing region).
As a result, sweating is reduced, leaving the underarms dry and comfortable, and odor is also improved.
Some patients occasionally ask whether stopping sweating in the underarms will cause increased sweating in other parts of the body. However, this does not occur with botulinum toxin treatment.

Sweat is produced by these two types of sweat glands.
Sweat itself is odorless, but body odor occurs when it mixes with sebum on the skin surface or when bacteria on the skin break it down.
Botulinum toxin injections for excessive sweating (underarm Botox) reduce sweating by inhibiting the activity of eccrine sweat glands, which in turn decreases sweat production and helps reduce odor.
Hyperhidrosis refers to a condition in which eccrine sweat glands produce an excessive amount of sweat beyond what is necessary.
Pain and Downtime

Therefore, individuals who are pregnant, may be pregnant, plan to become pregnant within the next six months, or are breastfeeding cannot undergo botulinum toxin injections (botulinum treatment).

Both men and women are required to use contraception for several months after the injection.
